Bar spoon
German: Barlöffel Also known as: Bar Spoon, Rührlöffel
A long-handled spoon with a small bowl for stirring, layering and measuring small amounts, holding about 5 millilitres.
The bar spoon is a tool with a long, often spiral-twisted handle and a small spoon. It reaches the bottom of tall glasses and can be rotated between the fingers, which allows even stirring. The end is flat, a muddler or a fork, depending on the model.
Besides stirring it is used to layer ingredients by letting liquid run over the back of the spoon. As a measure, one spoonful counts as about five millilitres, sometimes abbreviated BL in recipes.
