Mocktail

Pronunciation: mock-tehl Also known as: Alkoholfreier Cocktail, Zero-Proof

A non-alcoholic cocktail prepared with the techniques and care of classic cocktails.

A mocktail is a cocktail without alcohol. It is made with the same techniques as a classic drink, that is, shaken, stirred or muddled, and served with a garnish. Ingredients include juices, syrups, herbs, teas, spices, vinegar or non-alcoholic spirit alternatives.

Good mocktails need a balance of sweetness, acidity, bitterness and texture so that they do not feel like mere juice blends. Well-known examples are the Virgin Colada or Virgin Mojito. The term zero-proof drink is also common.
