Throwing
Also known as: Throw
A technique in which a drink is poured in a high arc back and forth between two vessels to aerate and chill it.
In throwing, a drink is poured in a long stream from one vessel into a second one, and this is repeated several times. The drink chills and a little air is incorporated. The technique is often associated with the Blue Blazer, in which burning liquid is poured back and forth between two mugs.
Compared with shaking, the drink stays calmer and less frothy. Some bartenders use it for drinks with herbs or ingredients that would suffer from vigorous shaking, and it also has a visual show effect.
