Mixing glass

German: Rührglas (Mixing Glass) Also known as: Rührglas, Mixing Glass

A tall, heavy glass vessel with a spout in which drinks are stirred with ice rather than shaken.

The mixing glass is a thick-walled glass with a spout in which ingredients and ice are stirred with the bar spoon. Because of its shape the ice moves easily without the drink taking up much air. The heavy glass holds the cold and is stable.

After stirring, the drink is poured through a strainer into a chilled glass. The mixing glass is used for clear drinks such as the Martini, Manhattan or Negroni.
