Rimming
German: Rimmen (Glasrand) Also known as: Salzrand, Zuckerrand, Rimming, Rand
A method in which the rim of a glass is coated with salt, sugar or spices.
In rimming, the rim of a glass is moistened with a citrus slice or a little syrup and then dipped into salt, sugar or a spice mix. The ingredient then adheres evenly to the rim. A well-known example is the salt-rimmed Margarita glass.
It is important to coat only the outer rim so that the grains do not fall into the drink. The rim affects the taste while drinking and is meant to complement the flavour balance of the drink.
