Garnish techniques

German: Garnish-Techniken Also known as: Garnieren, Dekoration

Methods for preparing and attaching a drink's decoration, such as zests, spirals, fans or herb bouquets.

Garnishing involves various craft techniques: zesting (removing the peel with a knife or zester), cutting spirals, slicing and fanning fruit wheels, briefly slapping herbs before placing them to release aroma, or skewering ingredients on a pick.

Good garnish has not only a visual but also an aromatic effect, for example when citrus oil is expressed over the drink. A garnish should suit the drink and be edible or at least pleasant to smell.
