Neat
Pronunciation: nit Also known as: Pur
A serving style in which a spirit is poured pure, without ice, water or mixer, at room temperature.
Neat means a spirit goes into the glass pure and unchilled, without ice, water or mixer. It is drunk at room temperature so that aromas develop best. This is usual for fine whiskies, rum, cognac or brandy, often in a nosing glass or tulip glass.
It differs from straight up in that a straight-up drink is first chilled with ice but then served without it. Anyone ordering neat wants to experience the character of the spirit unaltered.
