Crushed ice

German: Crushed Ice Also known as: Crushed, Gestoßenes Eis

Finely broken ice that chills drinks quickly and dilutes them more strongly.

Crushed ice consists of small pieces of ice produced by breaking cubes in a Lewis bag, with blenders or with ice machines. Because of its large surface area it chills a drink very quickly but also melts faster and therefore dilutes more.

It is used in drinks such as the Mojito, Caipirinha, Mint Julep or swizzle drinks, where strong chilling and some dilution are desired. It also gives a characteristic look.
