Clear ice
German: Klareis (Clear Ice) Also known as: Clear Ice, Glasklares Eis
Ice without visible air inclusions that looks clearer and usually melts somewhat more slowly.
Clear ice is made by freezing water directionally from top to bottom or from one side so that air and dissolved substances are pushed out. The result is a crystal-clear block that is then cut to size. Cloudy ice forms when water freezes from all sides.
Clear ice is denser and has fewer cracks, so in practice it usually melts somewhat more slowly and dilutes the drink less. It is used mainly for neat spirits or drinks on the rocks and is regarded as a visual quality marker.
