Syrup
German: Sirup Also known as: Fruchtsirup, Grenadine
A thick, heavily sweetened preparation of juice, sugar and flavourings used to sweeten or flavour drinks.
Syrup is a concentrated, viscous solution of sugar and water, often flavoured with fruit juice, herbs, flowers or spices. In the bar it replaces sugar because it mixes in quickly and without residue. Well-known types are grenadine, elderflower, ginger or vanilla.
Diluted with water or sparkling water, syrups also make non-alcoholic drinks. Good syrups contain real fruit or plant extracts. After opening they should be stored cool. For plain sweetening, the bar mostly uses sugar syrup.
