Sour

Pronunciation: sauer Also known as: Sours

A cocktail family of spirit, lemon or lime juice and sugar or syrup, balancing sweetness and acidity.

A sour consists at its core of three parts: a spirit, a sour component such as lemon or lime juice, and a sweetening element such as sugar syrup. Well-known examples are the Whiskey Sour, Daiquiri and Margarita. The balance between acidity and sweetness is decisive.

With egg white a foam forms that gives the drink texture and a silky surface. A sour is generally shaken and strained, served either without ice in a coupe or over ice in a tumbler.
