Julep strainer
German: Julep-Strainer Also known as: Julep Strainer
A spoon-shaped, perforated bar strainer inserted into a mixing glass to pour stirred drinks without ice.
The julep strainer has the shape of a flat, perforated bowl and is placed into the mixing glass or shaker tin with its back facing up. It holds back the ice while the drink is poured out. The name goes back to the Mint Julep, for which a similar strainer was used.
Because it sits close against the glass, it is often preferred for stirred drinks. It keeps most of the ice back but filters less finely than a Hawthorne strainer combined with a tea strainer.
