Grape juice

German: Traubensaft Also known as: Süßmost, Traubenmost

Fruit juice from wine grapes; sweet and, if unfermented, alcohol-free.

Grape juice is obtained from pressed wine grapes and is not fermented, so it remains alcohol-free. It counts as a fruit juice and naturally contains much fruit sugar. There are red and white grape juices, which differ in colour and taste.

The juice can be cloudy or clear and is made directly or from concentrate. It serves as a base for spritzers, alcohol-free sparkling alternatives and some mixed drinks. If the juice is fermented further, wine results. The term grape must refers to unfermented grape juice from the pressing process, used in the wine world. A related term is Süßmost, an unfermented juice from grapes or apples.
