Alcohol-free sparkling wine

German: Alkoholfreier Sekt Also known as: Alkoholfreier Schaumwein, Alkoholfreier Perlwein

A sparkling drink based on dealcoholised wine or grape juice that resembles sparkling wine without alcohol.

Alcohol-free sparkling wine (often offered as a Secco alternative) is a sparkling drink that resembles sparkling wine in look and taste but contains no or very little alcohol. It is made either from dealcoholised wine or from grape juice to which carbon dioxide is added.

The designation “Sekt” is legally protected and presupposes alcohol content; products without alcohol therefore may not be called Sekt but carry names such as “alcohol-free sparkling drink”. The taste is usually sweeter and less complex than that of sparkling wine. Dry and sweet versions exist. The price is usually below that of Sekt. For occasions without alcohol it is a popular alternative.
