Natural mineral water
German: Natürliches Mineralwasser Also known as: Mineralwasser
Officially recognised water from underground sources protected against contamination, bottled at the source and original in its purity.
Natural mineral water comes from an underground water body that is protected against contamination and is bottled directly at the source. In Germany it must be officially recognised. Its composition of minerals and trace elements is naturally constant and is checked regularly.
The water may not be disinfected. Only a few treatments are allowed, such as removing iron and sulphur or adding or removing carbon dioxide. The label states minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and bicarbonate. Depending on carbonation, a distinction is made between classic, medium and still. Natural mineral water differs from table water, which may be manufactured.
