Cloudy juice

German: Naturtrüber Saft Also known as: Naturtrüb, Trüber Saft

Fruit juice that has not been clarified by filtering, containing fruit particles and natural haze.

Cloudy juice is not clarified after pressing. Pulp particles, pectins and plant substances stay in the juice and provide haze and a stronger taste. The cloudy version is especially common with apple juice.

A sediment can settle at the bottom of the bottle, so it should be shaken before opening. Clear juice, by contrast, is freed of haze particles by fining and filtration and looks brilliant. Both variants meet the same requirements for fruit juice. Cloudy juices are not inherently healthier or better; they differ mainly in appearance, mouthfeel and aroma. After opening, the juice should be stored cool and consumed promptly.
