Fruit nectar

German: Fruchtnektar Also known as: Nektar, Fruchtnektar

Drink made from fruit juice or puree with water and sugar up to a maximum; fruit content between 25 and 50 percent depending on fruit.

Fruit nectar is made from fruit juice or fruit pulp to which water and, if applicable, sugar or honey are added. This is mainly necessary for fruits whose juice is very sour, thick or tart, such as blackcurrant, sour cherry or banana.

The minimum fruit content is regulated by law and lies at about 25 to 50 percent depending on the fruit. The label must carry the designation “nectar”. Compared with fruit juice, the fruit content is lower and sugar content and sweetness higher. Nectar must be distinguished from fruit juice drinks, which have an even lower fruit content. The exact recipe can be read in the ingredient list.
