Cola

Also known as: Cola-Getränk, Colagetränk

A brown, caffeinated soft drink with a characteristic aroma of citrus, spices and caramel colour.

Cola is a caffeinated, brown soft drink with carbonation. The typical aroma arises from a blend of natural flavours such as citrus, vanilla and spices, the sweetness of sugar or sweeteners and an acidic character usually created by phosphoric acid. The brown colour comes from caramel colour.

In Germany cola counts as a caffeinated soft drink with legal limits for caffeine. Versions without sugar or without caffeine exist. As a mix with orange lemonade it is known as Cola-Mix, with beer as “Diesel”. Because of sugar and acidity, dentists advise drinking cola in moderation. The mandatory information is on the label.
