Energy drink
German: Energydrink Also known as: Energy, Energy-Drink
A caffeinated soft drink with additives such as taurine; subject to special labelling requirements.
Energy drinks are carbonated soft drinks with increased caffeine content and further additives such as taurine, vitamins and sugar or sweeteners. Common cans contain about 32 milligrams of caffeine per 100 millilitres.
For drinks with more than 150 milligrams of caffeine per litre, a warning is mandatory: consumption is not recommended for children and pregnant or breastfeeding women. The label also states the caffeine content. Energy drinks are not sports drinks and no substitute for enough water. People sensitive to caffeine should pay attention to amounts. In mixtures with alcohol they carry risks; notes on this appear on the pack. The currently valid regulations apply.
