Bitter lemon

Bitter lemon is a carbonated lemon soft drink flavoured with quinine. Quinine provides the tart, bitter taste. Like tonic water it is drunk on its own or as a mixer, for example with gin or vodka.

Quinine-containing drinks must be labelled as such in the EU. People who are sensitive to quinine should check the label.
