Juice from concentrate

German: Saft aus Fruchtsaftkonzentrat Also known as: Konzentratsaft, Aus Konzentrat

Juice from which water was first removed and later added back; equivalent in fruit content.

For juice from concentrate, water is first removed from the pressed juice, leaving a syrup. The concentrate can be transported and stored economically. At the place of bottling, the same water is added back in the original amount.

The result is comparable in composition to not-from-concentrate juice, and the Fruit Juice Ordinance requires this type of juice to be labelled as such, for example with the note “from fruit juice concentrate”. No sugar may be added here either. The method is economical and allows fruit juices to be sourced year-round and worldwide. When the juice is reconstituted, aromas are often returned by adding fruit aroma back.
