Table water

German: Tafelwasser

A manufactured drink made from drinking water, mineral water or other ingredients, with added minerals or carbon dioxide.

Table water is not a natural product but a manufactured drink. It consists of drinking water, natural mineral water, sea water or brine, and may have mineral salts and carbon dioxide added. Official recognition as with mineral water is not required.

The taste depends on the manufacturer's recipe. The label must carry the designation “table water”, often supplemented by the added ingredients. Related is “spring water”, which also originates from underground sources but does not need to meet the strict requirements for mineral water. Table water is often cheaper than mineral water and suits everyday drinking.
