Deposit
German: Pfand Also known as: Flaschenpfand
An amount charged on top of the price when buying a container and refunded when it is returned.
A deposit is an amount charged in addition to the price of a drink and refunded when the container is properly returned. It is meant to secure return and reuse or recycling.
In Germany there is a legally required one-way deposit of 25 cents per container and a reusable deposit set by the industry. For reusable bottles it typically ranges from 8 to 15 cents, and for the crate often 1.50 euros. Exact amounts depend on bottle and crate type. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
