Draught system / dispensing system
German: Zapfanlage / Schankanlage Also known as: Zapfanlage, Schankanlage, Zapfhahn
Equipment that cools, pressurises and dispenses draught beer.
A draught system consists of a keg coupler, pressurised gas supply with carbon dioxide, lines, cooling and a tap. The gas pushes the beer out of the keg while the cooling provides the right serving temperature.
Small flow coolers for parties are distinguished from permanently installed systems in pubs. Cleanliness is essential: lines must be cleaned regularly to preserve flavour and hygiene. Commercial systems must meet hygiene and safety requirements, for example for carbon dioxide cylinders. At busy events, cooling capacity also decides how much beer can be tapped without excessive foaming. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
