Drop shipment
German: Streckengeschäft Also known as: Strecke, Direktlieferung
A sale in which goods go directly from the producer to the customer without passing through the trader's warehouse.
In a drop shipment the trader contracts with the customer, but delivery comes directly from the supplier, such as a brewery. The goods never enter the trader's warehouse, so storage and own transport are not needed.
Typical cases are large quantities, special products or special orders. The trader remains the contact but must coordinate with the supplier, for example on date and delivery note. Tax and deposit handling also need separate attention in such cases. Invoice and delivery note often come from different parties, which makes assigning deposits and empties harder.
