Pallet (Euro pallet)
German: Palette (Europalette) Also known as: Europalette, EUR-Palette
A standardised wooden load carrier on which drinks are stacked for transport and storage.
The Euro pallet measures 1200 by 800 millimetres and is the common load unit in European freight. In beverage trading, crates, cartons or kegs are stacked on it layer by layer and secured for transport, for example with stretch film or straps.
How many crates or cartons fit on a pallet depends on pack type and stacking height. Pallets are moved by forklift, are exchangeable and also count as returnable items that have to be sent back. Depending on pack type, a pallet can weigh several hundred kilograms, so secure loading and suitable lifting equipment are essential.
