Order picking

German: Kommissionierung Also known as: Picken, Auftragszusammenstellung

Assembling ordered items from the warehouse for delivery or collection.

In order picking, the lines of an order are collected in the warehouse and prepared for delivery. In beverage trading this usually means stacking crates, cartons and kegs by order, often by pallet or in a sequence matching the route.

Efficiency, accuracy and weight are the challenges: drinks are heavy and a mistake is costly. Pick lists, barcode scanning and a warehouse layout by turnover shorten paths and reduce errors. In home delivery, packing often follows route order so that the driver can unload goods in the order of the stops.
