Returnable crate
German: Mehrwegkasten Also known as: Bierkasten, Wasserkasten
Deposit-bearing plastic crate for returnable bottles that stays in circulation until returned.
A returnable crate is a crate that is refilled and reused several times. It is usually made of plastic and designed for specific bottle types and fill sizes, such as beer or water crates. A deposit is charged separately for crate and bottles.
There are standard crates and individual crates with logos or special shapes. They are often available in variants for different bottle counts, for example 20 bottles of 0.5 l or 12 bottles of 0.7 l. In trade, crates are stored stacked on pallets.
