Sulphite declaration
German: Sulfit-Hinweis Also known as: Enthält Sulfite, Schwefeldioxid-Kennzeichnung
A mandatory note 'contains sulphites' above 10 milligrams of sulphur dioxide per kilogram or litre.
Sulphur dioxide and sulphites are among the allergens that must be declared. The note 'contains sulphites' or 'contains sulphur dioxide' is required at concentrations above 10 milligrams per kilogram or per litre, expressed as sulphur dioxide.
For wine, sparkling wine, fruit wine and some juices this is often the case because sulphur is used for preservation. The note usually appears on the back label. It says nothing about quality but informs people who react sensitively. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
