Food Information Regulation (FIC)

German: Lebensmittelinformationsverordnung (LMIV) Also known as: LMIV, Lebensmittelkennzeichnung, Food Information Regulation

The EU regulation specifying what information must appear on prepacked foods.

Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 specifies which information must be given on foods and drinks in the EU and how it must be presented. It includes the name of the food, ingredients, allergens, net quantity, best-before date, name and address of the responsible operator, and origin information in certain cases.

For alcoholic drinks above 1.2 percent alcohol by volume there are some exemptions, for example for the ingredient list and nutrition declaration. The information must be easily legible, and a minimum font size applies. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
