'Alcohol-free' designation

German: Bezeichnung „alkoholfrei“ Also known as: alkoholfrei, 0,0 %

In Germany drinks with at most 0.5 % vol may generally be called 'alcohol-free'.

In Germany the term 'alcohol-free' usually applies up to a maximum of 0.5 percent alcohol by volume. For beer this is generally accepted; small traces of alcohol arise unavoidably during production or fermentation.

The exact framework depends on the drink and the naming rules of the product group. Those who want to avoid alcohol entirely should look for statements such as '0.0%'. For beer, 0.5 percent is the generally accepted convention; there is no uniform statutory definition of 'low alcohol'. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
