Nutrition declaration

German: Nährwertdeklaration Also known as: Nährwertangabe, Nährwerttabelle

A table of energy and nutrients per 100 millilitres or grams on prepacked foods.

The nutrition declaration lists energy, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars, protein and salt per 100 grams or 100 millilitres. It is mandatory for most prepacked foods and non-alcoholic drinks.

Beer and spirits above 1.2 percent alcohol by volume are exempt, but wine and wine-based products have not been since 8 December 2023: the energy value must appear on the label, the other values may follow via QR code. Many producers of other drinks provide it voluntarily, at least for energy. For sugary soft drinks the sugar content is often highlighted in addition. For packaging with a very small surface there are exceptions, and for products without nutritional value, such as water, the statement may be omitted. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
