Independent bottler

German: Independent Bottler (Unabhängiger Abfüller) Also known as: Unabhängiger Abfüller, IB

A company that buys casks from distilleries and bottles them under its own name without distilling itself.

An independent bottler buys casks or distillate from distilleries, lets them mature or recasks them and bottles them under its own label. The distillery is then not the bottler. The label often names the source distillery, but sometimes it does not.

Such bottlings often show other sides of a distillery than its standard releases, for example through special casks or cask strength. Independent bottlers are known above all in the whisky sector.
