Irish whiskey

German: Irish Whiskey Pronunciation: ai-rish wis-ki

Whiskey from Ireland, often triple distilled and mild in taste. It must mature at least three years in wooden casks.

Irish whiskey is made on the island of Ireland and must mature at least three years in wooden casks. Many brands distil three times, which contributes to a light, soft character. Types include single pot still, single malt, grain and blended whiskey.

A speciality is single pot still: it is made from malted and unmalted barley in pot stills and tastes creamy and spicy. Irish whiskeys are mostly spelled with an e. The origin is protected as a geographical indication.
