Blended whisky

German: Blended Whisky Pronunciation: blen-ded wis-ki Also known as: Blend, Blended Scotch

A mix of different whiskies, often malt and grain whisky from several distilleries, tuned to a consistent style.

Blended whisky is made by a blender mixing whiskies from different casks and distilleries. Usually stronger malt whiskies meet milder grain whiskies from the column still. The aim is a harmonious taste that is the same year after year.

The majority of whiskies sold worldwide are blends. The blender's craft lies in selecting and balancing often dozens of components. Blends are sometimes seen as simpler than single malts but can be very complex. Ireland, Canada and Japan also make blended whisky.
