Gose
Pronunciation: go:-ze
A top-fermented wheat beer with a slightly salty and tart note and coriander, originally from Goslar and Leipzig.
Gose is a top-fermented, sparkling beer made of wheat and barley malt with coriander and salt added. Lactic acid bacteria make it mildly sour. The result is a refreshing beer with citrus notes, delicate saltiness and often low to moderate alcohol.
Gose is named after the river Gose near Goslar; the style is closely tied to Leipzig in particular. Because of the salt and coriander it historically departed from the purity law. Today Gose is being rediscovered as a craft beer, sometimes with fruit additions or hops. It is enjoyed well chilled with salads, fish or seafood.
