White wine

German: Weißwein Also known as: Weißweine

Wine usually made from light-skinned grapes that are pressed before fermentation without skin contact.

White wine is usually made from light-skinned grapes that are pressed before fermentation. The juice ferments without skins, so hardly any tannins enter the wine. White wine can technically also be made from red grapes if the juice is separated immediately.

White wines are often fermented cool and aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit aromas; some varieties also mature in wooden casks. They are usually served cooler than red wine.
