Blending

German: Verschnitt (Cuvée, Blend) Pronunciation: ver-schnit Also known as: Cuvée, Blend, Assemblage

Combining several batches, varieties or vintages into one drink with a consistent, desired style.

In blending, several batches of a drink are brought together, for example different grape varieties, casks, vintages or distillates. The aim is a result that is better, more balanced or more consistent than any single component.

Terms such as cuvée or blend are in use. Especially for whisky, champagne, rum and tea, the art of blending is central so that the house style tastes the same every year. For some products, blending rules are set by law, such as minimum shares for varietal or vintage claims. The applicable regulations are decisive.
