Batch number

German: Chargennummer (Los) Also known as: Los, Losnummer, Charge

A marking of a production batch that allows the origin and time of production of a product to be traced.

The batch number, also called lot number, identifies a particular production batch. All bottles or packs from the same batch were made or filled at the same time under the same conditions. It usually appears as a print on the label, the bottle neck or the base.

With it, products can be traced specifically in the case of quality defects or recalls. Producers can use it to link raw materials, filling time and equipment. Foods generally must carry a lot marking, although in some cases a date indication can replace it. The applicable regulations are decisive.
