Tequila

Pronunciation: te-ki-la

Mexican spirit from blue agave with protected origin. Blanco, reposado and añejo exist depending on ageing time.

Tequila is obtained from the juice of the blue Weber agave after the heart of the plant has been cooked. The product may only be made in certain regions of Mexico, above all the state of Jalisco. The origin is protected.

Tequila exists as blanco without cask ageing, reposado with at least two months in cask and añejo with at least one year. An important distinction is between 100 percent agave and mixto, which may also contain other sugars. Taste ranges from fresh and vegetal to vanilla and spice. It is drunk neat or in mixed drinks such as the Margarita.
