London dry gin

German: London Dry Gin

Gin style in which all flavour comes from distilling botanicals in alcohol. Almost nothing may be added after distillation.

London dry gin is the strictest category of gin. The name refers to the style, not an origin: it may be made anywhere. Neutral alcohol is distilled together with natural botanicals, and all the flavouring arises during distillation.

After distilling, only water and a very small amount of sweetener may be added. Colourings and artificial flavours are not allowed. The result is a dry, clear gin with a distinct juniper note. It is regarded as the classic base for gin and tonic and Martini. The applicable regulations are decisive.
