Feinherb (off-dry)
German: Feinherb Pronunciation: fain-herp Also known as: feinherb
Free taste term for wine with slight residual sweetness, usually around medium dry. The exact sweetness is set by the producer.
Feinherb is a designation widespread in Germany for wines lying somewhere in the medium-dry range. Unlike dry and medium dry, the term is not tied to fixed sugar limits, so the same word can taste differently sweet from different producers.
It is often used for Riesling and other aromatic varieties where a little residual sweetness balances the acidity. Anyone wanting certainty should check the residual sugar figure on the data sheet or ask the producer. The term is regarded as a friendlier substitute for medium dry.
