Brew ratio
German: Brühverhältnis Also known as: Kaffee-Wasser-Verhältnis, Brew Ratio
The ratio of ground coffee to water used in brewing.
The brew ratio states how much water is used per amount of ground coffee, usually in grams. It influences the strength and concentration of the drink. For filter coffee a ratio of roughly 1 to 15 up to 1 to 17 is often given; espresso is considerably more concentrated.
Together with grind size and time the ratio is decisive. Anyone wanting to brew reproducibly weighs coffee and water on a scale instead of dosing by spoons or cups.
