Filter coffee
German: Filterkaffee Also known as: Handfilter, Pour Over
Coffee in which hot water runs through ground coffee in a filter and drips into a pot or cup.
In filter coffee, ground coffee is placed in a paper, metal or cloth filter and hot water is poured over it, by hand or by machine. The liquid drips through the filter and picks up the soluble compounds while the grounds stay behind.
Paper filters retain fine particles and some of the oils, so the drink is clear and mild. With metal filters coffee often tastes fuller. A medium grind is suitable, and the water temperature is usually just below boiling.
