Organic labelling (EU organic logo)

German: Bio-Kennzeichnung (EU-Bio-Logo) Also known as: Bio-Siegel, EU-Bio-Logo, Öko-Kennzeichnung

A legally protected indication of organically produced products, controlled under the EU organic regulation.

Terms such as 'organic' are legally protected for foods and drinks. Anyone using them must comply with the EU organic regulation and be subject to inspection by approved bodies. Prepacked products carry the EU organic logo and the code of the control body.

For wine, beer and juices, rules on ingredients, production and processing differ from conventional production. Private growers' association labels may impose additional, often stricter requirements. The applicable regulations are authoritative.
