Vermouth

German: Wermut (Vermouth) Also known as: Vermouth, Vermut

Aromatised, fortified wine flavoured with herbs and spices, including wormwood.

Vermouth is an aromatised wine to which herbs, roots and spices are added. Typical is wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), after which the drink is named. The wine is fortified and usually sweetened, with dry and sweet variants available.

Vermouth is a common ingredient in classic cocktails such as the Martini and Manhattan. After opening it should be kept chilled and used within a reasonable time, since it still oxidises.
