Lagenwein (single-vineyard wine)

German: Lagenwein Also known as: Erste Lage, Große Lage, Grosses Gewächs

Wine from a single named vineyard site. In the VDP classification this includes Erste Lage and Grosse Lage.

Single-vineyard wines come from one individually named site and are meant to show its particular features. The VDP system distinguishes Erste Lage and Grosse Lage, with the dry top product of Grosse Lage called Grosses Gewächs.

Yields are limited and the vineyards are often farmed with special care. Single-vineyard wines are frequently suited to longer cellaring. They are usually more expensive than estate and village wines because origin, effort and rarity feed into the price.
