Primary aromas
German: Primäraromen
Aromas that come directly from the grape or raw material, such as fruit, flowers or herbs.
Primary aromas come from the raw material, in wine from the grape and grape variety. They include fruit, floral and herbal notes such as citrus, apple or blackcurrant. They depend on variety, soil, climate and harvest time.
Together with secondary and tertiary aromas they form the overall picture of a wine. Primary aromas are especially pronounced in young wines and often recede with maturity.
