Natural wine
German: Naturwein Also known as: Natural Wine, Vin Nature
Wine made with as little intervention and additives as possible. There is no uniform legal definition.
Natural wine means wines in which as little as possible is intervened in the vineyard and cellar. Typical are hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation with naturally present yeasts and the avoidance of additives. Often they are bottled with no or only minimal sulphur.
There is so far no legally binding definition, so the term may mean different things. Private certifications and charters of individual associations exist. The wines can taste very lively and idiosyncratic, and some are cloudy. Whether a wine fits one's own idea of natural wine is best learned from the producer.
