Balance
German: Harmonie und Balance Also known as: Ausgewogenheit, Balance
A well-matched interplay of sweetness, acidity, bitterness, alcohol and aroma in which nothing stands out unpleasantly.
Balance or harmony means that the components of a drink fit well together. Sweetness, acidity, bitterness, alcohol, tannins and aroma are in equilibrium, so no single aspect dominates or disturbs.
Balance is a central quality criterion in tasting, especially for wine, cocktails and beer. It does not mean mildness; powerful drinks can also be balanced. An unbalanced drink seems, for example, too sour, too sweet or too alcoholic. For cocktails in particular, balance is a matter of precise measuring.
